Showing on the face of the image attached to this piece is the concise discourse on the difference between Ar-rosuul and An-nabiyy. In the process of given the definition of Ar-Rosuul & An-Nabiyy and what differentiate them, there has been a number of scholarly opinions.
Among the well-known scholars are those who posited that:
Ar-rosuul (messenger) is a person sent and nourished with revelation; and he was thereafter commanded to disseminate the message to the hearing of mankind. And while An-nabiyy (prophet), although, was equally given revelation but was not given any order to disseminate same to the hearing of the people.
However, this writer, aligning himself to the position of other notable scholars holds that:
Ar-rosuul (messenger) is a person specially chosen, aided with revelation, given a new code of life (sharii`ah) and was commanded to bring same to the hearing of the people he was sent to.
And while An-nabiyy (prophet) is:
...a chosen personality also aided with revelation. He was not given a new special code but only to act on the existing protocol given to the immediate messenger (ar-rosuul) before him and to propagate same.
Scholars who subscribed to the letter definitions of Ar-Rosuul and An-Nabiyy respectively include ibn Taymiyah. Textual authorities cited in support of their mawqif (position) include, among others, Q5 vs 44 [Al-Maaidah]:
إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَا ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ فِيهَا هُدًى وَنُورٌۚ يَحْكُمُ بِهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّونَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْلَمُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ وَٱلرَّبَّٰنِيُّونَ وَٱلْأَحْبَارُ بِمَا ٱسْتُحْفِظُوا۟ مِن كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ شُهَدَآءَۚ
Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah ] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto...
